EarthCraft House, U.S. Green Building Council, Oikos

Cannon Equities is committed to minimizing the environmental impact of our projects. Whether developing from the ground up or revitalizing existing properties, we strive to implement sustainable practices that reduce energy and water consumption and provide a cleaner, healthier environment for our tenants and homeowners. In the commercial arena we are guided by the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design (LEED®) programs, although we seek to employ design principals that outpace the requirements when economically feasible. Our residential and construction projects take the same approach using LEED for Homes or EarthCraft House green building programs.

In addition to our own development activities, we seek to take an active role in the continuing evolution of green building standards and practices. Cannon principals serve in various capacities on several USGBC Atlanta committees, and actively promote the mission of the USGBC. Cannon employees have taken an active role in the development of local green building ordinances, including volunteering our time and services in an advisory role to the local NAIOP and BOMA chapters to ensure that developers’ interests are fairly represented.

All of Cannon’s sustainable efforts are implemented by our related company, EcoMetrix Environmental Management. In addition to directing our internal sustainability efforts, EcoMetrix also consults on a third party basis. EcoMetrix’s “real estate centric” view of sustainability allows us to provide clients with a developer/owner’s perspective, enabling us to satisfy each client’s unique combination of sustainable goals and economic requirements.
